Our process: from initial concept to bespoke installation

Commission process
Initial Contact
Start by getting in touch via email. Share a little about your ideas - what you need, your preferred style, dimensions, inspiration, functionality, budget, and location. This helps shape the initial brief.
Design Conversation
We’ll then have a discussion - ideally on site, to explore your vision and start generating concepts. Ballpark figures are provided at this stage, and a £1000 deposit secures your place in the schedule.
Working Brief & Mood Boards
I’ll pull everything into a working brief - a flexible framework that guides research and design. Collaborative mood boards help capture visual inspiration and define the aesthetic direction.
Initial Concepts
I create initial design concepts through sketches and quick CAD models. These early ideas explore possibilities rather than final details. We’ll discuss timber species and materials with samples to help you visualise options.
Design Development & Review
As the design develops, concepts are refined and narrowed down for review. We work together to highlight details you love, merge ideas, and consider practical constraints. Prototypes may be made to test tricky elements.
Final Design & Approval
Once the design is fully developed, detailed manufacturing drawings and final costs are shared. With your approval, a 50% deposit allows me to begin sourcing materials and scheduling the build.
Material Sourcing & Making
I carefully source timber, hardware, finishes, and other materials, prioritising quality and sustainability. Your piece is then handcrafted in the workshop, with regular updates so you can follow its progress.
Installation & Photography
Before installation, a 30% interim payment is requested. I’ll install the piece to exacting standards, arranging any additional labour or logistics as needed. With your permission, the finished piece can be photographed in situ.
Final Sign off
After delivery, you'll have a final sign-off to confirm you're delighted with your commission. I’ll also share care and maintenance advice to keep your furniture looking its best for years to come.
Finally, the remaining balance is invoiced, and your commission is ready to enjoy for years to come.
Follow-Up & Support
I’m here if you ever need advice, additional pieces, or refurbishment (should the need arise). Consider it an ongoing partnership.
The process outlined here is just an example, in reality many of the stages outlined run concurrently as I sketch and research throughout the whole design and making process. Payment schedules can be adjusted to suit your procurement practices.
If you have an idea for a piece you’d like to bring to life, get in touch. I’m happy to discuss your vision, offer guidance, and see how we can create something unique together.
